The Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce named Comfort Inn & Suites the 2008 Small Business of the Year. The 10th annual chamber award was given during a June 20 banquet at Buckingham’s in the Clarion Hotel at the Palace.

Other nominees were Branson Scenic Railway, Christian Action Ministries, Creative Printing & Design, French Hen Café & Coffeehouse, Hansen’s Tree Service, Lilley’s Landing, Ozark Trails Magazine and Touch of Class, according to a chamber news release.

The Myer Hotels-owned Comfort Inn & Suites opened in 2001 in Branson Meadows.

Myer Hotels owns five Branson properties under the Comfort Inn and Best Western flags and has been in the hospitality business since 1967, according to www.myerhotels.com.

The release said the Branson Meadows Comfort Inn is a two-time finalist for Comfort Inn of the Year and rated No. 1 out of 1,360 hotels as of March 31 for the previous 12 months based on numerous criteria established by Choice Hotels International. In 2001, the hotel implemented several “green” items before many in the industry adopted such measures.
