Facebook, Twitter head into retail terrain

In an effort to tap into growing consumer spending in e-commerce, Twitter and Facebook are testing out "buy" buttons in ads and user content, according to CNBC.

Twitter recently purchased Cardspring, a payments company that allows users to load discounts onto their credit cards. CNBC reports the service would allow users to save promoted discounts for use in-store at a later date.

CNBC reports Facebook is testing features that will allow small businesses to buy products through pages, posts and ads in user's news feeds.
