Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Twitter have removed an influence campaign designed to promote the interests of U.S. foreign policy.
It's the first time an influence campaign pushing U.S. interests abroad has been taken down from the social media networks, according to the Stanford Internet Observatory and research company Graphika.
The operation ran for nearly five years. The accounts behind the operations posed as news outlets or took on personas of people who did not exist.
