Facebook leapfrogs GE in market value

Posted online
Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ: FB) earned a five percent boost in market value Thursday to $308 billion, putting it ahead of General Electric Co., Amazon.com Inc., Johnson & Johnson and Wells Fargo & Co.

GE, by comparison, has rebounded 27 percent to Facebook’s 33 percent since an August selloff dropped the companies to two-year and two-month lows, respectively.

The world’s largest social network first crested $100 billion in market value Oct. 23, and is now the sixth-largest company in the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index, according to Bloomberg Business. GE ranks No. 8.

Facebook’s jump added $2.4 billion to the net worth of founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg in the first 15 minutes of the market’s open Thursday, bringing his total net worth to $47.8 billion.
