Facebook issued an apology for an outage that lasted several hours yesterday.
Santosh Janardhan, Facebook's vice president of infrastructure, cited "configuration changes on the backbone routers."
"This disruption to network traffic had a cascading effect on the way our data centers communicate, bringing our services to a halt," Janardhan said.
In addition to Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp were down for around six hours.
