Facebook announced a change in its corporate name to Meta.
Facebook and the company's other apps, such as Instagram and WhatsApp, will remain under the Meta umbrella.
Meta is a reference to the metaverse, a composite universe melding online, virtual and augmented worlds, according to The New York Times.
“Over time, I hope we’re seen as a metaverse company," said CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
