Eye Surgeons of Springfield has announced the availability of LASIK to patients in southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas, according to a news release from the surgery practice.
LASIK is an acronym for laser assisted in-situ keratomileusis. The procedure combines the excimer laser with microkeratome technology providing vision correction for nearsightedness and astigmatism.
The procedure allows patients to enjoy enhanced vision and leaves them less dependent on glasses or contact lenses. Thomas G. Prater, MD, FACS, and Byron Faulkner, MD, FACS, both of Eye Surgeons of Springfield, have trained to perform LASIK.
"The LASIK procedure combines the best of all refractive procedures available today. It allows our patients to have quick visual recovery and return to normal activities almost immediately," Prater said in the release.
"With LASIK, there is virtually no pain or discomfort," Faulkner added. "We have been very pleased with our results since we started performing the procedure earlier this year."
The doctors' results show that more than 90 percent of patients who have the procedure performed can pass their driver's test without glasses.
Prater and Faulkner are ophthalmologists with Eye Surgeons of Springfield at Cox Medical Plaza I, 3800 South National.
