Contract drivers for the on-demand, city-subsidized car service IRIS in Kansas City are seeking to unionize. They held a rally yesterday outside of the headquarters of zTrip, a taxi service hired by the city to operate the program.
Bill George, CEO of zTrip, and Terry O’Toole, the company’s general manager, interjected at the rally, where they yelled at participants and attempted to interrupt the proceedings, KCUR reports.
George said it would be up to the city to allocate additional funding for driver pay.
The workers seeking to unionize want higher pay, benefits and the ability to reject rides without penalties.
