Former United States Secretary of Defense Caspar W. Weinberger will speak April 11 at College of the Ozarks' Work Ethic Forum.
The speaking engagement will begin at 6 p.m. in The Jones Auditorium on C of O's campus.
Weinberger served as secretary of Defense from 1980 to 1987. He was nominated to the position by President Ronald Reagan.
His early political career involved work as a California state legislator, chairman of the California State Government Organization (The Little Hoover Commission) and California's director of Finance.
President Richard M. Nixon appointed Weinberger as chairman of the Federal Trade Commission in 1970. Following that he became director of Office Man-agement and Budget and then Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare.
Weinberger is chairman of Forbes Magazine, where he has been publisher since 1989 after leaving the Pentagon.
Weinberger has written about his defense and national security experience in numerous media outlets and has published two books: "Fighting for Peace," an account of his Pentagon years; and "The Next War," which raised questions about the adequacy of U.S. military capabilities following the end of the Cold War.
His other business endeavors include directorships of PepsiCo Inc., Quaker Oats Co. and the Bechtel Group.
