State Auditor Nicole Galloway's office this week laid out claims that the former mayor and city clerk of a southeast Missouri town engaged in a four-year scheme to take $115,000 from the city.
The audit report alleges former Parma Mayor Tyus Byrd and ex-City Clerk Helen Frye purchased gift cards, appliances, furniture and electronic equipment on the city's dime.
“For almost the entire time the former mayor and former city clerk were in office, there was a pattern of blatant corruption and cover-up that cost the citizens of Parma more than $115,000,” Galloway said in a statement.
