Ex-governor of Virginia sentenced to prison for corruption

Former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, who asked a judge Tuesday for mercy for his wife and himself, was sentenced to two years in federal prison for public corruption.

McDonnell was convicted Sept. 4 of taking bribes - to the tune of over $165,000 in loans and high-end gifts - in exchange for favors from his office.

Prosecutors had been seeking at least a 10-year sentence, according to USA Today.
