Ex-BP exec found not guilty of lying about oil spill

Posted online
A federal jury has found a former BP executive not guilty of making false statements to investigators in connection with the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

David Rainey had been accused of manipulating calculations to match a government estimate of the amount of oil leaking into the Gulf. The jury found Rainey did not lie about the numbers, according to Dow Jones Newswires.

Rainey also faced a charge of obstructing a congressional investigation. However, that charge was dismissed last week, in part, because Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Ed Markey and others could not be subpoenaed to testify.
