Evangel tops off administration building

Evangel University and Walton Construction on Monday installed the last piece of steel on the school’s new administration building and marked the milestone with a topping-off ceremony.

The project’s construction workers and Evangel staff and faculty were invited to autograph the beam before a banner was hung from it, and it was raised into position. A picnic luncheon for the workers followed.

The new Ralph M. Riggs Hall – named after the Assemblies of God general superintendent who pushed to establish Evangel – is scheduled for completion this fall, according to an Evangel news release. The three-level, 69,000-square-foot building will house offices for the president, five vice presidents and their support staff, the release said.

The $10 million project was designed by Sapp Design Associates, Architects PC and is the final piece of a campus development plan that started in the mid-1990s and included eight major projects.

Evangel is built on the site of the former O’Reilly General Hospital, and the campus at one time had nearly 100 World War II Army barracks. The lone remaining barracks building will come down when Riggs Hall opens.[[In-content Ad]]
