The walls of Evangel University's Ephraim Media Center are about to get more decorative as the Springfield school inducts five alumni into the communication department's inaugural Communication Wall of Fame.
Honorees were nominated by fellow alumni and voted on by communication department faculty, according to a news release. Honorees in the inaugural class are:
- Brandon Beck, a 1996 Evangel graduate, is known in southwest Missouri as the morning meteorologist on KY3’s Ozarks Today.
- Norma Champion, a 1971 Central Bible College grad who is known as Aunt Norma from KY3’s Children’s Hour program and has served as professor at Evangel and CBC. She also has been a state senator, legislator and Springfield City Council member.
- Steve Grant, a 1976 Evangel graduate, is known for his nearly 40 years of on-air reporting and anchoring at KY3 News.
- Kay Logsdon, a 1977 Evangel grad, currently is working as vice president and editor-in-chief of The Food Channel. Logsdon previously served as director of the Springfield Regional Arts Council and directed public relations for the city of Springfield.
- Shirley Shedd, a 1962 Evangel grad taught English and journalism at CBC and Evangel. She served as communication department chair and as The Lance student newspaper adviser for 25 years.
“It’s our first year of recognizing our alums in this way, so we thought it best to choose five out of those nominated by fellow alumni," said department chairman Cameron Pace, in the release. "We have some catching up to do."
The event is slated for 3 p.m. Oct. 10 in Evangel's Trask Hall. The department plans to award two communication alumni next year and one or two in subsequent years, according to the release.
