Evangel University has attained its highest enrollment in the university's history, with 2,072 fall 2010 enrollees.
The previous record, set in 2005, was 2,021 students, according to a Sept. 14 news release.
Evangel's total enrollment increased by 118 students from the fall 2009 semester, including 82 additional graduate students over last year, the release said.
“We are very excited about our student body this year,” said Andy Denton, vice president for enrollment management. “It is the result of a tremendous amount of hard work by the Enrollment Management staff as well as an excellent partnership with faculty and staff in recruitment and retention activities.”
Denton said in the release Evangel has experienced solid retention rates for three consecutive years, but he could not be reached by deadline to clarify rate specifics.
Paul Logsdon, director of public relations and publications, attributed the school's retention rates to the creation of the Evangel Office of Retention and the naming of Becky Spain as the school's retention director in the fall of 2007.
"(She's) somebody who's an advocate for the students who can work with them on a day-to-day basis," he said in a phone interview.
Evangel joins Drury University, Ozarks Technical Community College and Missouri State university in increased enrollment numbers this fall
Drury has a record enrollment of 1,633, while OTC has a total enrollment of 14,056, a 9.4 increase from its fall 2009 enrollment numbers, according to the schools. MSU is anticipating its fall 2010 enrollment will top its 2009 record of 22,842; the school's enrollment numbers will be available Sept. 23.
