Evangel sets enrollment record

Posted online
For the second year in a row, Evangel University has set a record for student enrollment.

This semester, the school has 2,168 students enrolled, an increase of 96 students compared to the fall 2010 semester, according to a news release.

“We are pleased to see a strong new student enrollment for a third consecutive year and solid retention rates for a fourth consecutive year, which results in an overall increase in the undergraduate area,” said Andy Denton, vice president for enrollment management, in the release.

The school's enrollment comprises 1,547 undergraduate students; 234 in professional studies; 271 in master's programs; and 116 at James River Leadership Campus, which became an extension of Evangel during the summer.

On Aug. 4, the Assemblies of God General Council voted to merge Evangel University, Central Bible College and the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary under the Evangel banner. The consolidated school is set to begin classes September 2013, with the full extent of the merger to be completed by 2020, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.
