Evangel University has received a multimillion-dollar estate gift from late supporters of the Springfield higher education institution.
The $5.6 million donation comes from the estate of Robert and Sandra Graper, who had four of their six children attend Evangel, according to a news release. Robert, who served for 36 years with Eli Lilly Pharmaceutical Co., died in April 2021, and Sandra died in June.
“This precious couple exemplifies the principle of stewardship, living frugally throughout their vocational journey so they could honor the Lord,” said Mike Rakes, Evangel president, in the release. “Their generosity creates a lasting impact as Evangel moves into the future, and we honor their investment to us.”
Nelson University in Texas and Southeastern University in Florida also have announced separate $5.6 million donations from the Graper estate.
At Evangel, the funds are earmarked for a variety of initiatives that would further the school's mission, according to the release. Officials say the Grapers "were consistent supporters of Evangel due to their passion for Christian education and appreciation for the experiences of their daughters."
