Evangel University has received $31 million in donations since President Mike Rakes' inauguration 13 months ago.
The giving total set a school record, according to a news release. The previous giving record was $7 million raised in the 2020-2021 academic year.
"It is clear that there is distinct favor on the university in this season, and we are moving full steam ahead into the future," Rakes said in the release.
The Green family, owners of Hobby Lobby Stores Inc., made a $10 million gift to Evangel this summer, according to past reporting. Lilly Endowment Inc. awarded a $5 million grant in September, and a $1 million gift from central Missouri philanthropist Shirley Rowden also was among funding received in the past 13 months.
This summer, Evangel launched the Here. Now. Campaign to fund the construction of a new fieldhouse and sports complex, install a lighted artificial turf intramural field and renovate a residence hall, according to the release. Additional campus upgrade announcements are expected in the coming months.
Connected to Watkins Elementary School is a new storm shelter now under construction.
