Evangel conducts director-level hires

Posted online

Evangel University announced two director-level hires scheduled to start this summer.

Safety lead
The Springfield university named a U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army veteran as its new director of public safety.

Brian Keyes, who is retiring from the military after 31 years, is slated to start June 14, according to a news release. He succeeds Todd Revell, who retired from Evangel in May after five years holding the position.

“I am excited to return to Evangel and look forward to working with students, staff and faculty as our team works to keep the Evangel community safe," said Keyes, an alum with two bachelor's degrees from Evangel, in the release.

Keyes will oversee 11 employees, said Evangel spokesperson Erin Hedlun, declining to disclose the department’s budget.

In his role, he will be in charge of campus safety efforts, crime awareness and prevention, and collaboration with law enforcement and public safety agencies, according to the release.

Music hire
Evangel additionally appointed a new director of bands.

Justin Stanton, a 2007 graduate of Evangel, is scheduled to start July 1, according to a separate news release. He also will serve as an assistant professor of music.

Stanton takes over for Matt Moore, who is staying on in the music department as program coordinator for its recording technology program.

Stanton will oversee the university's concert band, marching band, brass ensemble and woodwind ensemble. He brings experience with music-related public teaching roles in Missouri and Oklahoma, according to the release.

“Justin is an energetic and confident musician who will begin a new chapter in the legacy of band music at Evangel,” said Tom Matrone, music department chair, in the release. “The music department faculty is thrilled to welcome Justin and have unanimously endorsed his appointment.”
