The Evangel University Department of Business has increased its scholarship fundraising goal to $1 million, following a quick response to a campaign launched in August.
Last year, the department established a $700,000 campaign - known as the Legacy Fund - to raise pledges to fund endowed business scholarships, which would be fully funded within five years, according to a news release.
The first phase of the fundraising campaign called for 14 pledges of $25,000 each, resulting in $350,000 to be matched by a general campaign in the second phase. However, more pledges than expected came in, resulting in $625,000 from 17 individuals and one corporation - which also pledged $10,000 toward phase two.
In phase two, launched in mid-December, the college is mailing alumni and friends of the business department to reach its $1 million goal.
“The success of this effort can be attributed to the very positive relationship that his department enjoys with its alumni,” Evangel President Robert Spence said in the release. “We believe that our other academic departments will be inspired by these results.”
