Another Evangel University alumnus has been tapped to lead a university.
Troy D. Paino, the current provost and vice president for academic affairs at Truman State University, will begin serving as that school's president in May, the university said Monday. He began serving as provost in 2008 and will replace retiring President Darrell Krueger.
Paino is a 1985 Evangel alumnus, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in history and philosophy. He is the 11th Evangel graduate who is leading or has led a university, according to an Evangel news release.
Paino served as the dean of the college of liberal arts at Winona State University in Minnesota 2004–2008, and he has a juris doctorate from Indiana University School of Law.
"Now, more than ever, Missouri and the nation need a school like Truman that represents the principle that a liberal arts and sciences education serves the public good as well as individual aspirations," Paino said in a Truman news release. "I look forward to working with the entire University community to build upon Truman's national reputation for academic excellence."
Evangel presented Paino with the Regius Award from the department of social sciences in April.
“Troy was bright, insightful and interested," Evangel professor emeritus J. Calvin Holsinger said when nominating Paino for that award. "He did good academic work, and the departmental faculty all knew he would be a valuable contributor to society. We are not at all surprised that he continued to do well.”[[In-content Ad]]
