Evangel University has added its first online degree program, a civic affairs degree for working adults.
“The online civic affairs major is designed for working adults with several career tracks in mind,” said Jeff Fulks, Evangel director of graduate and professional studies, in a news release. “It is ideal for those who want to become teachers, as it leads directly to our teacher education master’s program.
“It is also ideal for those who seek to find employment in government, military, foreign service or humanitarian organizations.”
The civic affairs degree, under the Department of Professional Studies, is available to people with prior college credits and four years of work experience. The designation - which would take approximatley 18 months to finish - requires 48 core credit hours to complete.
The bachelor's degree program emphasizes courses in history, government and multicultural studies, according to the release. The program is under the umbrella of Evangel's online education department,
eUniversity.
"We've had some online classes for students to mix in," said Jeff Burnett, Evangel's director of admissions, noting university research pointed to adult learners as most desiring of online courses. "There are plenty of people in Springfield who would be interested in completing a degree but might not have time for a seated class experience."
