Europe's top court rules against Apple in tax case

Europe's top court has ruled against Apple in a 10-year court battle over taxes in Ireland.

The European Court of Justice ruled that Apple must pay $14.4 billion in back taxes. Apple has been accused by the European Commission of receiving "illegal" tax benefits from Ireland over the course of two decades.

"The European Commission is trying to retroactively change the rules and ignore that, as required by international tax law, our income was already subject to taxes in the U.S.," Apple officials said in a statement.
