European leaders rebuff Ukraine's request for fast-track EU membership

Western European leaders are rebuffing appeals from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for fast-track membership into the European Union.

French President Emmanuel Macron said he did not believe it was possible to “open an accession procedure with a country at war."

“Should we close the door and say never, it would be unfair,” he said.

Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland have supported Zelenskyy's request.
