EU to probe top Goldman Sachs hire

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker has asked the organization’s top ethics body to examine his predecessor's decision to take a top job at U.S. financial giant Goldman Sachs.

Jose Manuel Barroso is joining the company as nonexecutive chairman, Goldman Sachs announced in July. He led the EU 2004-14.

More than 135,000 people have signed a petition started by EU staff that calls for "strong exemplary measures" against Barroso, saying his decision to accept the job exemplifies "irresponsible revolving-door practices" that are damaging EU institutions.
