Esterly, Schneider & Associates Inc. AIA is the architect for the new columbarium wall at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery near Lake Springfield. Malone Finkle Eckhardt & Collins Inc. is the mechanical and electrical engineer and Anderson Engineering Inc. is the civil engineer. The estimated cost of the project for the state of Missouri and the Missouri Veterans Commission is $740,000. The new wall is an 856-niche columbarium to meet the needs of growing numbers of veterans who are choosing cremations. The concrete structure comprises pre-cast concrete niche units that are four tiers high. The wall is on a hilltop overlooking the 50-acre cemetery and will reflect on the uniform headstones below. The front exterior façade will have a highly polished black granite veneer with an extended plaza, with bright letters that read “In honor of all who have served.” The wall is slated for completion in November.
