ESPN releases its third annual ranking of the biggest names in sports, and an international soccer player sits at the top.
Cristiano Ronaldo, of Portugal, is No. 1 on the 2018 World Fame 100 based on three factors: online search scores, endorsements dollars earned and social media followers. The 33-year-old Ronaldo tallied endorsements of $40 million, an online search score of 100 and a social following of 121.7 million. He also had the top spot last year.
ESPN’s Sports Analytics Group started with 600 of the biggest names in sports from 68 counties. Soccer players dominated the Top 5:
1. Ronaldo, soccer, Portugal
2. Lebron James, basketball, United States
3. Lionel Messi, soccer, Argentina
4. Neymar, soccer, Brazil
5. Roger Federer, tennis, Switzerland
