Erlen Group subsidiary plans $57M investment in PIC West

Posted online

A subsidiary of Springfield-based Erlen Group is planning a Partnership Industrial Center West investment to the tune of tens of millions of dollars.

Cold Zone, a provider of cold storage logistics solutions, is slated to break ground June 20 on a $57 million, 170,000-square-foot facility in the northwest Springfield industrial center, according to a news release from the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

"We are thrilled to unveil our latest project, which represents a significant milestone from Cold Zone and the Erlen Group,” said John Griesemer, CEO of Erlen Group, in the release. “With the demand for temperature-controlled storage and distribution solutions on the rise, our new facility in Springfield will enable us to better serve our clients while driving innovation in the industry.”

The facility's location will be at PIC West's Site K, a 46-acre site. Site K is shown on the southwest side of PIC West, just south of Division Street, at SpringfieldRegion.com. Chamber officials said in the release that the purchase of Site K is the fourth property in PIC West to sell in the last 12 months.

The planned PIC West facility for Cold Zone has the potential to expand to up to 800,000 square feet, officials say, and it would have temperature zones for frozen and cooler products.

Cold Zone currently operates in Springfield Underground.
