The Environmental Protection Agency is proposing major changes to the Clean Water Act.
Under the proposal, types that would be protected under federal law would be major waterways, their tributaries, adjacent wetlands and a few other categories, according to NPR.
Andrew Wheeler, the EPA's acting administrator, said the changes that clash with Obama-era rules are designed to "provide states and landowners the certainty they need to manage their natural resources and grow local economies."
