In her own words, the owner of eMarket Solutions says, “I was anti-technology anything.”
“When I was a freshman in college I was typing an essay and I couldn’t figure out why the sentence I was typing was erasing the sentence after it,” she said. “I had to go to my Mom’s house and she showed me what was wrong … I was hysterical and crying that night because I couldn’t figure out the insert key.”
It’s ironic, then, that her new business is one that is completely dependent on the computer. Since her college experience, she’s been trained on computers and has more than four years of experience working with Web sites, including working for the Internet-only company 3000toys.com — a multi-million dollar company.
eMarket Solutions is a business that Demery started to help other companies in the tri-state area and nationwide better utilize their Web sites. The image on her business card is of a magic lamp, and she says that’s representative of the three phases of her business.
“I offer search engine optimization, paid-per-click sales and e-mail campaigns,” Demery said. “I’ve worked for a huge Internet business for the past three years and I began to realize that most companies have a Web site, but they don’t realize the commerce that can be generated from those sites.”
Demery said it’s her goal to help businesses learn how to optimize their Web sites so that it will become that company’s “hardest working employee.”
“I take the existing Web site and make it better,” she said. “Your Web site should be functioning just like the front of a building. It should be working as much as your best employee, with half the cost.”
Demery said she began the business by targeting a number of companies that she knew weren’t reaching their full potential with their Web sites. She started that in February, and in less than eight months she’s generated a number of clients nationwide. She said her client-base is about 50/50 between national companies and tri-state companies … and she’s got more in the wings.
“The most successful client I have has 40 new customers a month,” she said. “I’ve made a lot of friends over the past months.”
Demery said she begins the process with a free consultation for a company. When she tells them what possibilities there are to make the Web site more efficient, she then charges based on the options the company might choose. She said a company might want her to focus on one aspect of her three-pronged approach — search engine optimization, for instance — or may want all three services along with continued consultation. She said being an Internet-based company has its benefits, too, in that her low overhead allows her to offer low prices to her clients and be competitive.
“This isn’t a new concept,” she said. “There are a few people doing similar things on the east and west coast. I wanted to take it back to Joplin. So if (a local company) is unsure about your Web site and don’t think it can make you any money, call me. It will work.”
