Enter the ClickHole - The Onion's New Viral Media Parody Site

Posted online
Satire news organization The Onion in June is launching a new website chock-full of “click-baiting content” emblematic of the current Internet culture, according to Mashable.

Called ClickHole, the site’s placeholder says the online experience will have “content so shareable, snackable and clickable, it will rob you of all logic and reason.” A graphic “Step-By-Step Guide to Clicking” follows.

In an announcement this week, Onion officials said ClickHole.com would feature Internet media favorites like quizzes, inspiring first-person stories, cuteness and slideshows.

"We want to look at every corner of the Internet: the blogs, the aggregators, the Tumblrs, the Twitter accounts, and really represent the internet in its indisputably hypnotic and oftentimes extremely vapid entirety," ClickHole Editor Jermaine Affonso told Mashable. "We’re excited about using this site to experiment with jokes that run the gamut from biting commentary to more absurdist, whimsical flights that might not work anywhere else."

A few of the articles Mashable previewed include: "Which pizza should I have for dinner tonight? (presented by Pizza Hut)," "Seven pricks that defied the odds and didn't go into finance" and a photo slideshow entitled "Six kinds of hay."

Mashable said it verified with a spokesperson at The Onion that the site is real. At the bottom of the homepage next to a “Click Me!” button, the site reads: “Practice clicking the button below between 800,000 to 12 million times in preparation for our launch this June.”
