Enrollment increases at MSU, Drury

Posted online
Initial enrollment figures for Springfield’s largest universities are in.

Enrollment at Missouri State University, where classes began today, is 17,491 students, up 1.2 percent from last year’s first-day total.

Enrollment of first-time freshmen at MSU is up 7.2 percent from last year, while out-of-state freshmen increased by 43.2 percent.

MSU’s official enrollment figures will be released next month after late registration and special-courses registration comes to a close. Those accounted for an additional 3,500 students last year.

Classes also started today with record enrollment at Ozarks Technical Community College. More than 10,000 students – including 3,300 first-time students – are enrolled, an all-time high for the 15-year-old school.

Drury University expects 500 new students to begin classes Wednesday, setting a record for first-time student enrollment. Total traditional-student enrollment at Drury this semester is about 1,650.

At Evangel University, about 500 freshmen and transfer students are anticipated to attend this school year, bumping total enrollment to roughly 2,000. Classes begin Aug. 31.

Evangel has added majors this year in environmental science and in recreation and minors in leadership and in human resource management.[[In-content Ad]]
