Enbridge to buy Spectra Energy in $28B deal

Canadian pipeline company Enbridge Inc. announced today an agreement to buy Spectra Energy Corp., of Houston, Texas, for $28 billion.

The all-stock deal would create a major North American energy-infrastructure company, even as low oil prices continue to damage energy-industry operators.

Supported by the boards of both companies, the deal is expected to close in first-quarter 2017.
