Empire customers invited to comment on rate increase

Posted online
Missouri Public Service Commission will hold public hearings in March to hear from Empire District Electric Co. customers on the utility’s proposed rate increase.

Last October, Empire filed a $34.7 million electric rate case with the commission. If approved, a residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours of electricity would see a $9.75 monthly increase.

Customers also are invited to bring any service-related issues to the commission’s attention at the hearings.

The hearings are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. March 25 at Webster Hall, Missouri Southern State University, in Joplin; 11:30 a.m. March 26 at Webster Hall; and 5:30 p.m. March 26 at Tri-Lakes TCRC, University of Missouri Extension, Reeds Spring High School.

Hearings will last no more than three hours.

Customers wishing to comment on the case can contact the Office of Public Counsel by mail at PO Box 2230, Jefferson City, MO, 65102; by phone at (866) 922-2959; or by e-mail at opcservice@ded.mo.gov. They also may contact the commission by mail at PO Box 360, Jefferson City, MO, 65102; by phone at (800) 392-4211; or by e-mail at pscinfo@psc.mo.gov.

The commission will hold formal evidentiary hearings on the case in May.
