Empire asks commission to grant rule variances

Posted online
The Missouri Public Service Commission is allowing interested parties to participate in a case with Empire District Electric Co., which has requested permission to deviate from some of the commission’s resource-planning rules.

The Joplin utility has asked the commission to grant it variances from certain requirements of the commission’s rules. The rules are in place to ensure Missouri’s electric utilities go through an adequate planning process that protects the public interest, according to the commission.

Empire is expected to file in compliance with the rules in September.

Applications to participate in the case are due Aug. 9 to the Secretary of the Missouri Public Service Commission, PO Box 360, Jefferson City, MO, 65102. Copies of an application should also be sent to Dean L. Cooper, Brydon, Swearengen & England PC, 312 E. Capitol Ave., PO Box 456, Jefferson City, MO, 65102; and to the Office of the Public Counsel, PO Box 2230, Jefferson City, MO, 65102.

Empire serves about 137,000 customers in 17 southwest Missouri counties.[[In-content Ad]]
