Elon Musk's holdings fall $3.5B on double whammy

Inventor and investor Elon Musk is having an exceptionally bad year.

His holdings in electric car maker Tesla and solar panel installer SolarCity are down $3.5 billion since the end of 2015.

Combined, the companies have handed investors total market value losses of $15.7 billion this year.
