Elevating Independence Through Innovative Solutions

Posted online

Experiencing a gap in the mobility industry inspired business partners Bryan Powers and Zac Lawson to start Mobility City. When Bryan’s wife, Tiffany, injured her knee and was wheelchair-bound, they learned all about mobility and medical equipment. Bryan was taking care of Tiffany and the kids while juggling a career. Once Tiffany recovered, they made the career transition into mobility.
Mobility City is the fastest-growing medical equipment franchise in the United States focusing on the sales, rental and service of Group II Mobility Equipment. The franchise owners, Vinnie and Diane Barratta, were in the industry for 40 years before starting Mobility City in 2017. Bryan and Zac, along with their wives, Tiffany and Traci, partnered to bring Mobility City to Springfield, Missouri, and Rogers, Arkansas.

Filling a Niche and a Need
Superior customer service is the top goal at Mobility City. Before Mobility City, people primarily bought mobility equipment online. Now clients can come in the Springfield, Missouri, or Rogers, Arkansas, location where their team of experts will help clients find the equipment that suits their mobility needs and goals.
Mobility City customers are fitted and serviced at prices that are affordable and comparable to internet prices. Because Mobility City doesn’t accept insurance, they can offer mobility equipment at low market prices. For clients who can’t get approved for insurance or self-file, Mobility City can potentially saves them hundreds.
In addition to accessibility products, Mobility City is passionate about saving the community money. They are one of the places in the area who install stair and vertical platform lifts. Formerly, Kansas City was the closest location and charged over $400 for consultations!

Mobility City is Cutting Edge
Mobility City is on the cutting edge of accessibility products, new mobility devices and technology to keep people mobile. The newest products are lightweight, but most insurances deem them “luxury items” and won’t pay for them. From a lithium battery to a bigger item, Mobility City helps customers find the affordable equipment they need. An expert will walk them through a series of questions, then help them use, drive or try it out.
Mobility City focuses on keeping everyone mobile, not stuck at home, by providing solutions like scooters and accessibility equipment like stairlifts and vertical platform lifts. Plus, they have a large selection of lightweight folding equipment.

Mobility City Investment
The investment in the Springfield, Missouri, and Rogers, Arkansas, stores has been approximately $400,000 each. The time investment for each owner has ranged from 40 to 60 hours a week. The owners, currently paid employees, are reinvesting the profit back into the stores. There are 12 employees: four owners, two showroom specialists and six technicians who service a 100-mile radius covering a 1-million-person+ territory in each market.

Supporting the Community Moving Forward
Mobility City gives back to the community by servicing long-term care facilities for free. They tune and tighten mobility equipment, reducing the chance of falls for those who use the equipment.
“Our plan moving forward is to continue helping the community. This has been more gratifying than other careers we’ve experienced,” said Powers.
Over the next few years, new locations will open in Little Rock, Arkansas, and Tulsa, Oklahoma.
