In an assurance of voluntary compliance filed Monday in Cole County Circuit Court, Sechler Electric Inc., 1925 E. Phelps, agreed to pay $9,600 and reduce bills for some ice-storm customers. Nixon alleged the company charged customers rates for electrical inspections or repairs that were “substantially above the pre-storm market rate,” according to a news release from Nixon’s office.
Sechler will pay $1,100 to the state as restitution for customers who filed complaints with Nixon; $7,500 to the state to reimburse Nixon’s office for case costs and to fund consumer education and enforcement; and $1,000 in civil penalties to the Greene County School Fund.
Sechler also agreed to reduce the bills of three customers who Nixon alleged were overcharged a combined $2,358, according to the release.
A representative from Sechler was not available for comment.
Customers who believe they were overcharged can file complaints with Nixon’s office to be considered for additional restitution or bill reductions. To file a complaint, visit Nixon’s Web site at ago.mo.gov or call (800) 392-8222 before Oct. 26.[[In-content Ad]]
