Electric co-ops donate to honor U.S. troops

Posted online
Southwest Missouri electric cooperatives will join state legislators tonight to present a $20,000 donation to the United Service Organization.

USO representatives will accept the donation at 6 p.m. in a ceremony in the upper lobby of the Wonders of Wildlife Museum and Zooquarium, 500 W. Sunshine.

The money will be used to send care packages to troops serving overseas. Cards will be available at the event for anyone to send words of encouragement to the soldiers.

The eight participating cooperatives are: Barry Electric, Cassville; Barton County Electric, Lamar; New-Mac Electric, Neosho; Osage Valley Electric, Butler; Ozark Electric, Mt. Vernon; Sac Osage Electric, El Dorado Springs; Southwest Electric, Bolivar; and White River Valley Electric, Branson.

The USO provides support services to U.S. military personnel and their families, and its Operation USO Care Package project is sanctioned by the military to provide care packages to unspecified military personnel.
