Electric co-ops donate $20,000 to U.S. troops

Posted online
Southwest Missouri electric cooperatives joined state legislators Nov. 29 in presenting a $20,000 donation to the United Service Organization.

USO representatives accepted the donation during an evening ceremony in the upper lobby of the Wonders of Wildlife Museum and Zooquarium, 500 W. Sunshine.

The money will be used to send care packages to troops serving overseas. Cards were available at the event for anyone to send words of encouragement to the soldiers.

The eight participating cooperatives are: Barry Electric, Cassville; Barton County Electric, Lamar; New-Mac Electric, Neosho; Osage Valley Electric, Butler; Ozark Electric, Mt. Vernon; Sac Osage Electric, El Dorado Springs; Southwest Electric, Bolivar; and White River Valley Electric, Branson.

The USO provides support services to U.S. military personnel and their families, and its Operation USO Care Package project is sanctioned by the military to provide care packages to unspecified military personnel.
