Eight southwest Missouri leaders to receive Missourian Award

Eight people from southwest Missouri are among the 12 recipients this year for the Missourian Award, given to Missouri natives or longtime residents who have made outstanding contributions in civics, business, arts or politics.

The 14th annual Missourian Award ceremony will be held Sept. 29 in Jefferson City. Proceeds from the event will benefit the American Heart Association.

Honorees from Springfield are:

• Jodie Adams, director of Springfield-Greene County Park Board;

• Dr. Loren E. Broaddus, internist and board member for CoxHealth;

• Dianne Elizabeth Osis, president and publisher of Springfield Business Journal and Joplin Tri-State Business;

• Karen Thomas, president of Oxford HealthCare; and

• John Twitty, general manager and CEO for City Utilities of Springfield.

Honorees from Joplin are:

• Dr. Charles H. Bentlage, retired U.S. Air Force colonel and retired general surgeon; and

• Rob O’Brian III, president of Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce.

John T. Russell, a retired state legislator, is an honoree from Lebanon. Cynthia J. Brinkley, Dr. David L. Ohlms and the late Ted Wetterau from the St. Louis area and Don Walsworth from Marceline round out the field of honorees.
