Three legs make for a sturdy stool, one you can trust and rest easy upon. Add a fourth leg, though, and the stool becomes rock solid, able to withstand certain forces.
In its first three years, Springfield Business Journal’s editors applied three criteria when selecting the annual 12 People You Need To Know:
- young up-and-comers;
- influential yet behind-the-scenes personnel; and
- newcomers, just beginning to build their southwest Missouri résumés.
Now, in its fourth year, we’ve added a fourth measure:
- notable names with whom readers would like to get up close and personal.
You know the name, and you’ve seen the face. But you wonder just who the person is behind the executive title. What are these notables’ personalities like? How do they interact with staff? What could we learn from them?
Furthermore, you’d like the chance to meet them face-to-face, shake their hands, ask questions and talk business. Well, here’s your chance.
We believe the additional element strengthens an already robust editorial project where we connect readers with business and community leaders through written profiles and a monthly breakfast event with one of the 12 as featured guest.
Each of the individuals in this booklet meets at least one of these standards.
One thing that won’t change with the new class, however, is the way each monthly breakfast event takes on the personality of the featured guest, from the line of questioning to the makeup of the attendees. No breakfast Q&A is alike.
This editorial project has full legs with the support of annual sponsor Arvest Bank. It also has a new venue in 2011, as we move to southeast Springfield at The Shoppes at James River. Houlihan’s restaurant will be the breakfast event site the first three months, while construction finishes on the Hilton Garden Inn at the development’s east end. O’Reilly Hospitality owns both properties, and we’ll move into the hotel beginning with the April event.
I invite you out to hear the interviews with the 12 People You Need To Know in 2011.
As SBJ Publishing Associate Publisher Jennifer Jackson is known to say, the 12 People need to know you, too.
