Edgar Eugene Bass died March 26 in his home. He was 74.
Mr. Bass was born in Springfield Oct. 22, 1923, and graduated from Springfield Senior High School in 1940. He was married Nov. 11, 1944, to Jo Ellyn Middleton in Coffeyville, Kan., where he was stationed in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of University Heights Baptist Church.
Mr. Bass went to work for the Springfield Leader and Press out of high school, which he graduated at the age of 16, and rose to the position of city editor.
After a long and varied career in public relations and as an entrepreneur (see the accompanying story on page 22), Mr. Bass was contributing editor to the Springfield Business Journal.
Mr. Bass is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Bass-Rossman and David Rossman, of Albuequerque; a daughter-in-law, Judy Bass, and three grandchildren Carrie, Jason and Bridget Bass, all of Leawood, Kan.
He is preceded in death by his wife and a son, David Eugene Bass.
Services for Mr. Bass are scheduled for 1 p.m. March 30 at University Heights Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Maple Park Cemetery.
