Economists fear debt ceiling fight may bring recession

Economists say the upcoming debt ceiling impasse could plunge the nation into a recession.

Half of 22 economists surveyed by CNNMoney said a recession is unavoidable if Congress fails to raise the nation's debt ceiling before the Treasury runs out of cash later this month.

Economists agreed the debt ceiling debate is more of a risk than the government shutdown.
