Ebbets Field sets reopening date

Ebbets Field is scheduled to reopen this month after changing ownership last year.

The 1027 E. Walnut St. restaurant announced on Facebook that March 27 would be opening day.  Sydney and Jerrad Davis purchased Ebbets Field and its roughly 5,000-square-foot building in July 2025 from Bryan Properties, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting. 

"We're super excited," Sydney Davis said in a Feb. 24 interview with SBJ. "Everything is falling into place."

Davis declined to disclose the couple's investment in Ebbets Field.

Davis last year told SBJ that a spring 2026 opening date was in the works for the venture. Referencing founder Nick Russo, who started Ebbets Field in 1981, Davis said the couple was aiming for a nostalgic look at the restaurant.

"We want to bring it back to the old Ebbets," Davis said in July 2025.

The most recent iteration of Ebbets Field, operated by a group led by Bryan Properties, closed in January 2024, according to past reporting. 

In the 1990s, Ebbets Field founder Russo moved the restaurant to 1027 E. Walnut St. from its initial location on Cherry Street, where the establishment was started, according to SBJ archives.
