Eastern Europe's largest lender backs Bitcoin

The future of Bitcoin is looking up – sort of.

Advocates gained support from the chief of Eastern Europe's largest lender on Friday. The Russian Kremlin is considering a bill designed to curb the currencies used to cut funding for terrorists. But OAO Sberbank chief Herman Gref is urging the lawmakers to reconsider, Bloomberg reports.

“It’s a very interesting global experiment that breaks the paradigm of currency issuance,” Gref said in the Bloomberg article. "A ban would be a colossal step backward."

Former economy minister for Russian President Vladimir Putin, Gref has sent letters to the Kremlin, central bank and Finance Ministry asking officials to intervene with parliament to avert possible restrictions.
