Dunkin' Donuts to remove titanium dioxide from donuts

That powdered sugar on your Dunkin' Donuts donut will only block those damaging UV rays for a little while longer: Dunkin' Donuts is removing its titanium oxide, an element also used in sunscreen and paint.
 
CNNMoney reports public interest group As You Sow claims titanium oxide isn't safe to consume because it damages DNA and chromosomes when eaten, among other concerns.
 
The advocacy group successfully argued for the removal of titanium oxide from the sugar recipe in a proposal submitted to Dunkin' Brands shareholders last year; shareholder proposals have also been submitted to other firms by As You Sow, according to the report.
