After three years in business, a dumpster rental company has opened a headquarters in the Springfield area.
For his venture Axis Dumpsters LLC, Royce Reding said he and business partner Carson Buckman last summer bought 10 acres of land near the intersection of State Highway 125 and State Highway YY. The land purchase was with the intention of renovating a long-abandoned former gas station and barn to serve as office space and provide storage for the company’s dumpsters and other equipment when not in use. The owners, who also rehabilitate houses in the area, decided to additionally renovate a couple of vacant homes on the property.
Property for the headquarters, which Reding said is at 7345 E. State Highway YY, had to be rezoned with Greene County to general business with a conditional use permit from agricultural. That process, along with renovations on the property, delayed the opening until late September, he said.
Axis Dumpsters provides rentals and transport of dumpsters for residential and commercial projects, including construction, roofing and home renovations or cleanouts, according to its website. The dumpsters range in size from 15-40 yards. Service area is typically a 50-mile radius of Springfield, Reding said.
“Each of us are real estate guys. We just had various pieces of real estate in the area, and so we would just sort of temporarily use those places,” Reding said of where the company previously stored its dumpsters. “We’ve always had places that we could park a few, but we just never had a ton of dumpsters that aren’t being in use to sit on a yard.”
Reding said the owners have invested roughly $1.5 million in the headquarters, which includes property purchase and renovation work. The company also recently completed a new order of dumpsters from Indianapolis-based waste management company MAC Corp., putting its total count close to 400, he said. Axis also has eight trucks and employs 11.
The owners started Axis in 2022 more as a cost containment strategy because of their residential renovation work.
“We knew we used a certain volume of dumpsters,” Reding said. “We quickly learned was that there was a niche for a local operator that could provide a quality product – meaning good value product – but more importantly, service these dumpsters for clients in an efficient way.”
Reding said commercial construction projects where Axis Dumpsters has been on-site include the Historic City Hall renovation in Springfield and the Michael L. Parson Student Union, under construction on the campus of Ozarks Technical Community College.
Company revenue was around $2 million in 2024 and is tracking closer to $3 million this year, Reding said.
“The growth has been a local company that has gone over the top on service,” he said. “We’ve been fortunate. As soon as the dumpster is used, more or less it’s going to its next job.”
