Drury’s business school adds 3 to Hall of Fame class

Posted online

Drury University’s Breech School of Business Administration will induct three new members into its Hall of Fame during homecoming activities early next year.

Joining the class of 2017 are Claudine Barrett Cox, a 1963 Drury graduate, Tommy Kellogg of the 1958 class and Bill Vaughan, an alumnus from 1974. According to a news release, the school already planned to induct 21 other members to the Hall on Feb. 10 at the Findlay Student Center Ballroom.

Cox, who will be honored posthumously, worked as portfolio manager for the Cox family’s companies and for CoxHealth, the nonprofit hospital named in honor of her father-in-law, Lester E. Cox. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and an MBA from Drury before going on to obtain a doctorate in economics from the University of Missouri. She also served as a U.S. representative to UNICEF for eight years and her philanthropic work included serving as the president of the Cox Hospital Auxiliary and on the boards of directors for Cox College, Drury, Springfield Little Theatre, and the Missouri Chamber of Commerce. She died in 2014 at age 90.

Kellogg, an Ava native, is a retired executive of the W.R. Berkley Corp., where he was chairman of its subsidiary, Signet Star Holdings Inc. Prior to joining Berkley, Kellogg retired from C-level positions in 2001 after 33 years with General Reinsurance Corp. and General Re Corp., a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE: BRK). He earned degrees in economics and political science while at Drury, as well as a master’s degree in economics and marketing from Michigan State University, and a Juris Doctor degree from DePaul University. Kellogg has been a member of the Drury Board of Trustees since 1990.

Bill Vaughan is a fourth-generation owner of the Bank of Urbana, and he recently led a sale of the bank to Springfield-based OakStar Bank. After taking over the family business in the late 1980s, he added bank branches in Buffalo, Hermitage and Macks Creek over the next two decades. He plans to retire in February, according to Drury’s release. Vaughan has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and economics at Drury and went on to the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University. He was an alderman for the city of Urbana and has been a Drury trustee since 2008, the release said.

Past inductees include Fortune magazine editor Carol Junge Loomis, Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris, Ford Motor Co. CEO Ernest Breech and O’Reilly Automotive Inc. (Nasdaq: ORLY) executives Larry and David O’Reilly.
