Drury University is slated to unveil a bust tomorrow of donor David Lewis, posthumously honoring him for a $1 million scholarship fund made to the Springfield college.
Lewis, who died in 2009, pledged his savings to Drury, Ozarks Technical Community College and College of the Ozarks, as well as 362 acres of Taney County property to the Missouri Department of Conservation, according to a news release.
The Lewis Family Foundation has contributed some $1.15 million to Drury. The $1 million scholarship endowment represents the seventh of that size entrusted to Drury in its 141-year history. Four students currently receive the Lewis Scholarship, which is earmarked for Ozarks students.
Born in 1933 in Rockaway Beach, Lewis attended Drury on a scholarship. He earned his money by working at Sears in Springfield for nearly 40 years, farming and raising cattle, as well as investing, according to the release.
Drury will hold a ceremony at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Bay Hall.
